Using
MyMathLab
Getting started with the Online Gradebook
and the Online Discussion Board:
Online Gradebook:
In general, grades will be posted within
about a week of the deadline for each assignment/test. Bonus points for tests taken early with a
score of at least 70% will be recorded with those test grades. You should be able to see that bonus points
have been added. Grades may be available
earlier than this, but please allow at least one week before you ask about any
grades. It often takes a while to
receive work from other campuses. Thanks
so much for your patience.
To find your grades for this course:
·
Log into http://pearsonmylab.com (formerly http://www.coursecompass.com/, which will redirect you to the
new website) and click on this math course.
This will give you a set of buttons on the left side of the page.
·
Click on the "Check Your Grades" button.
·
In the upper left part of the white web page that appears, if you click
on "Entire Course to Date" and select "All Assignments"
next to that, then you may scroll down the page to see all of your grades in
the class.
·
To see your current overall average in the course, click on "Show
Overall Score" in the upper left part of that same web page. Your overall average in the class will appear
in the upper left part of the next web page.
You may scroll down that web page to see a breakdown by Homework (both
Online and Written combined), Quizzes, and Tests. Please note that this overall average will
not include zeroes for missing assignments (homework, quizzes, or tests) until
the end of the semester.
·
One additional matter is that at the end of the semester, you may see an
Extra Final Exam Replacement Grade score.
By entering your Final Exam grade twice, I can drop your lowest Test
score so that your Final Exam grade will replace your lowest Test grade if the
Final Exam grade is higher. If the Final
Exam score is your lowest Test score, then either your Final Exam grade or
Extra Final Exam Replacement grade will be dropped, so your Final Exam will
only count once. If any of the 4 regular
Test grades is your lowest Test score, then that score will be dropped and the
Final Exam Grade will count twice: once
as the Final Exam grade and again in place of your lowest Test grade.

Online Discussion Board:
A Discussion Board is available in your
course in http://pearsonmylab.com (formerly http://www.coursecompass.com/, which will redirect you to the
new website), NOT in Blackboard for this course, so that we may all communicate
with each other and so that students may ask questions, do gentle peer
assessments (help each other) and self-assess (figure out what you are doing
right and where you may improve), all so that you have other ways to gain
knowledge in this math class. The
intended goal is for everyone to achieve victory over the math concepts and
therefore succeed in my classes. We need
your participation in order for this to work.
It has been shown that the more you explain math concepts to others, the
better you understand it. And the best
predictor of success in any math class is success in the previous math
course. Therefore, helping your
classmates is truly your gain because by doing so, you will likely understand
the math concepts better and therefore improve your chances of succeeding in
this math course. Students may introduce
themselves and/or start new threads on math-related topics,
including math concepts and problems that are giving you trouble. Just enter your course in MyMathLab and click on
"Discussion Board" in the left column to begin. Please email me if you see that a post has
not received a response, and tell me which course you are in. Thanks for your help and support.
