LETTERS
Objective
Use letters as a method for giving unity, rhythm, focal point, value, balance
and color to
your compositions. Two compositions will be completed. Letters are to be used
as a design element only - not to convey a literary message.
#1 will use only one letter of your choice
#2 may use the entire alphabet if you so choose - but the letters may not be used to directly to spell out a message of intent.
The letters must be used as a design element to create a forceful composition
which may covey a message or mood in some manner by arrangement or color.
Think of the letters not as symbols of communication but as shapes ( much
like geometric or organic shapes) or as elements of color that may determine
a mood or space in your composition.
You may use photocopies to enlarge or distort letters but color must be a
factor to be considered in the composition. You may use " found"
letters from magazines or you may create your own letters by cutting or use
photos of objects that resemble letters - for example: a photo of an open
pair of scissors could be read as an "X".
