Objective
Emphasize the use of scale in a series of drawings using multi media.
Analyze a small biological specimen - either an insect or a very small but detailed
plant (no larger than your finger)
Drawing 1 -
Make an extremely detailed life size drawing of your model. The drawing must
include all
the visible changes of value, shapes, texture and pattern. You must draw the
model
from 3 different angles top, bottom and side view to give the viewer a good
idea of its true
shape. The composition is to use the full page even though the objects are small.
Your
drawing must consider the negative space as part of your drawing and use it
as an
active part of the composition. You might consider shadows or some other elements
to
emphasize an area.
Drawing 2 - Same model
This composition will break three edges of the paper or format. In other words
the object
will be greatly magnified - the scale has changed. Maintain the integrity of
the model -
the shapes, the texture, etc. Emphasize your use of the composition. Look for
the
unusual perspective or angle for the viewer to see the object in an new way
- It is not a
scientific presentation of the object. Use conte - charcoal
Drawing 3 - Same model
This view will be greatly enlarged. Use a small section of drawing 2 to find
a composition
for this new drawing. You will be inventing some areas of the model than you
may
not actually be able to see. Look at electron microscopic photographs to give
you an
idea of what you might be missing. Emphasize a unique view of shapes, value
and texture for the viewer. Use a combination of conte, charcoal, ink, oil pastel
or watercolor pencil. Yes, you may use color in this drawing.
Materials
charcoal - conte black ink, pen brush, oil pastel, watercolor pencil, bristol
