As well as enjoying teaching and programming, I like learning foreign languages and learning about other cultures. You can often find me rollerblading at the veloway.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Adjunct Instructor at Austin Community College , Austin , TX . Taught "Programming Fundamentals,” "An Introduction to Programming using Visual Basic" and “C++ Programming." Prepared course curriculum. Wrote lab and project solutions in C++. Prepared course curriculum. Used the Blackboard program to display course documents, the discussion board, and student grades. 1995 – 1997 and Fall 2002 – present

English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher , Fairfax County , VA . Taught ESL through the Fairfax County Adult Education program. 1992 - 1993.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT  EXPERIENCE

 

Software Engineer and Database Designer

MDMR, Austin, TX     Feb 2004-present 

·        Wrote a program to update Excel spreadsheets with coded data from a text file of market research. Used regular expressions to parse the data.

·      Designed and developed a database of medical devices and market sectors using PHP and MySQL. Met with a business expert to define the business requirements.

 

Web Developer

     Designed and developed an on-line workshop registration application using ASP, Javascript, HTML, and SQL (https://www.arcticintl.com/workshopRegistration.asp).

 

Systems Programming Specialist for the CAD Tools Group at the Somerset Design left

Motorola, Austin, TX     1995-2002 

·      Designed a library of C++ objects responsible for legalizing the placement of cells. Solved the problem of finding free space on the chip for placing cells. Legalized the cell placement by aligning the cells’ PSTs with the power grid and making sure the cells’ pins were not completely blocked by power. Created a small TCL/TK graphical debugger for debugging the algorithm for merging free spaces.

·        Created an object-oriented framework in C++ for reports that were generated from a static timing analyzer. ·    Designed an object-oriented system in C++ to track directory activity. Developed a web page to display the directory activity.

 

Consultant

Jumpstart Systems, Inc., Cary, NC   1994-1995

·         Designed and coded the application architecture of a Smalltalk order entry application for a Fortune 500 telecommunications company.

·         Used VisualWorks and Object Lens to interface with an Oracle database for a sophisticated prototype developed for Lawrence Livermore Laboratories.

 

Computer Systems Analyst/Programmer

Library of Congress, Washington, DC      1989-1994  

·      Used Smalltalk/V for OS/2, Sybase on the RS6000, and client/server architecture to create an inventory system (SMS) for serially published materials. Responsible for the full-development lifecycle of a major part of the system. ·     Worked with a self-directed team to create a user-friendly PC-based interface to the bibliographic databases housed on the 3270 MVS mainframe. Programmed in EASEL and C.

·        Led the development of CD-ROM networks for Reading Rooms using Optinet and Banyan file servers.  Supervised and trained a summer intern.

  Library of Congress Intern       1989-1990

      One of seven graduates nationwide to be selected for the Library's paid nine month intern program. Learned about the operations at the Library of Congress, analyzed aspects of the computer systems in various departments, and participated in management training workshops.

  Database Designer     University Of Maryland, College Park, MD    1989

      Designed and created relational databases in 3NF to track the accessioning of manuscripts and archives and to check in university publications. Documented the system design and implementation, and trained staff members.
