Intro to Literature with a Texas focus is one of the most interesting classes you’ll find at ACC. As with all Intro to Lit. courses, it takes a wide view of literature with study of novels, poetry, plays and short stories, but this class adds in singer/songwriters and films to the list.

It’s a smaller class with a cap of 15 students, and it’s also more interesting with frequent class visitors who in the past have included Kinky Friedman, singer Dale Watson, filmmaker Kat Candler, singer Darden Smith, short story legend Carolyn Osborn, and punk rock/writer Jesse Sublett.

The primary texts won’t be found at the ACC bookstore, but you can find them inexpensively elsewhere. They are:

Horesman, Pass By by Larry McMurtry

The Last Picture Show by Larry McMurtry

Pale Horse, Pale Rider by Katherine Anne Porter

The Gay Place by Billy Lee Brammer
