  • Pam Sutton, Assistant to the President, has completed the set up of a new web page for DRAFT Administrative Rules. The link is: http://www2.austin.cc.tx.us/admrule/

  • Ed Osborn, Marketing & College Relations Executive, has been asked to serve as a consultant on a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board project. During the last legislative session the THECB, as part of the Closing the Gaps initiative, was given a mandate to create a public image campaign for higher education in Texas. The Coordinating Board hired Lynn Denton to coordinate the project and a local agency to develop the creative themes and advertising media. Ed will act in a liaison capacity to gain community college input on the creative development.

  • Alan Rasco, Associate Vice President for Workforce Education, has received a Certificate of Appreciation from Governor Rick Perry, in recognition of service to the State of Texas as a member of the 2000-2001 Texas Skills Standards Board's Competency-Based Curriculum Task Force.

  • Bill Carter, Associate Vice President for Information Technology, received many positive comments regarding IT's move from HBC to the Service Center. ACC employees experienced minimal disruption of ACC's homepage and email services, and distance learning classes were taught without any problems. Monitoring of all IT systems continues in the new location and "so far, so good."

  • The Environmental Sciences Department at ACC, an instructional unit within Math and Sciences, has been awarded a grant of $2,610 to support the development of a Tech-Prep articulated career pathway. Outcomes of the project include:

    • clarification of how students will be targeted

    • identifying which courses will be Tech-Prep credit-in-escrow and which will be dual credit

    • making Tech-Prep outcomes more explicit.

arrow.gif (1026 bytes) Student Achievement

In a recent Math Student Competition, students received prizes (scholarships) in amounts ranging up to $500. In the past, students received only twenty-five dollar gift certificates. Due to student performance, and the fine work of Math professor, Mike Dellens, in writing a proposal to the ACC Foundation, prizes now range from $100 for fifth place to $500 for first place.

Round 1 results: ACC was #8 in the nation of 150 community colleges participating. One student, Charles Meeks, was #12 in the nation of 5000 students participating. In our region, ACC is #1 and 8 of the top 11 students are from ACC.

The mural at the Capital of Texas Workforce Center, located at Austin Community College's Eastview Campus, was featured in an article in the Community College Times, January 8, 2002.
The idea of ACC Board of Trustees member, Beverly Silas, the mural portrays a diverse neighborhood and shows the community that ACC is part of the community. ACC art students and community members completed the work last fall. Elementary school children painted the mural's border.
