FACULTY/STAFF
RESPONSES TO ATTACKS ON NEW YORK/WASHINGTON
On Tuesday, September 25, ACC had Remembrance Services at each campus. That evening a
panel of faculty discussed the religious and political background associated with these
tragedies.
The faculty who conducted the discussion were Michael Forney, Karry Evans, and Matthew
Daude. Other topics are planned this semester on Tueday afternoons, and will be offered by
other ACC faculty.
Rex Peebles convened the planning group, which included Cynthia Cone, Maggie Culp, Dorothy
Barnett.
FINANCIAL AID
ACC's financial aid staff, led by Director Terry Bazan, continue to do a great job working
with students who receive loans in addition to their grant packages. The College's 1999
federal Default Rate in the Federal Family Education Loan program is 8.7% (it was 11.3 in
1998 and 14.6 in 1997). The 1999 figures are the most recent available through the U.S.
Department of Education.
STUDENT LIFE
Student Life held its annual Welcome Back Bash" on the campuses in early September
and ACC was featured with a full page of pictures in the Hill Country News.
Congratulations to Cheryl Richard, Coordinator of Student Life, and her staff for all
their hard work.
HEALTH PROFESSION
INSTITUTE
ACC'S Health Profession Institute received the Exemplary Program Award in the continuing
education category from the National Council for Continuing Education and Training.
CITY OF AUSTIN
EMPOWERMENT ZONE APPLICATION
Linda Young and Tyra Duncan-Hall are participating with City staff and community leaders
who are working on the East Austin Empowerment Zone application.
B. IDEN PAYNE AWARD WINNER
Guy Chandler Roberts, Drama Professor, won a local B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding
Featured Actor in a Drama, for The Beauty Queen of Leenane. He also won an Outstanding
Director of a Drama for the Macbeth.
IVC GROWTH
ACC'S investment in interactive televised instruction continues to show solid growth in
enrollments. Congratulations to Ron Brey, AVP, Instructional Resources and Technology.

and announced it to faculty and staff.
KLRU PRESENTATION
On Sunday, October 7, the local PBS affiliate will show an abbreviated version of Change
in the Bend: The Story of the Stillwell Ranch. This video was produced by ACC and the
Trull Foundation, and grew from a Fall 1994 class taught by Dr. Bill Montgomery (History
of the Southwest).
