  Faculty/Programs

Lynn Jones, Department Chair of Photography, was invited to give the commencement address at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Lynn, a graduate of the Institute, also received an honorary Master of Science degree at the graduation ceremony. ACC's Photography Department has had an articulation agreement with Brooks Institute for ten years. David Litchel, Dean of Academics and Chairman of Faculty at Brooks, describes ACC's graduates as the best transferring students. Most are in the top 10% and do "A" work. ACC graduate, Brooke Badger, was a 4.0 student and graduated cum laude. 

Kirk White, Director of Health Professions, Continuing Education, received notification that the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will fund $80,000 for a project to develop a statewide nursing refresher course. ACC is partnering with other community colleges to develop the on-line classroom portion. 

  Students

ACC students had a 100% pass rate on both levels on the written exam of the Spring 2003 EMT-Intermediate and Paramedic graduates' written national certification exam. Kyle Pierce heads Emergency Medical Services Technology.

ACC students Kris King and Stephanie Moore were invited to participate in the summer program at Highland Lakes Camp and Conference Center. Students are invited from all over the United States to participate in this program which focuses on servant leadership. Students have the opportunity to work in local churches, and to mentor high school students. 

  Staff/Departments

IT Operations Manager, Theresa Harkins recently graduated from the Leadership Round Rock program offered by the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce.

Theresa Harkins, and Assistant Operations Manager, Thomas Sigg have completed a 3-day Baldridge Examiners training session at The University of Texas and are now certified Baldridge Examiners for the UT Center for Performance Excellence.

The Information Technology Department successfully completed the upgrade to Datatel's Release 17 a day earlier then expected on June 16th. The upgrade was a college wide effort that began in September of 2002 and culminated with 4 days of software installing, file conversion and testing. All departments and staff of the college are commended for their teamwork and diligence in testing and retesting the software; especially, Human Resources, Student Services, Instructional Support Services, Business Services, Institutional Effectiveness and the Information Technology Project Review Team

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Subcommittee of the Distance Education Advisory Committee recommended approval of ACC's Institutional Plan for Distance Education and Off-Campus Instruction. The Subcommittee praised the Plan as excellent, and requested that a copy of the Plan be made available on the Coordinating Board's website. Special thanks goes to Ron Brey, AVP of Instructional Resources and Technology, and Luanne Preston, Director of Early College Start and Supervisor of ACC Centers, for their good work.

The Career and Technology Administrators of Texas (CTAT) selected Sharyl Kincaid, Executive Director of Capital Area Tech Prep Consortium, as an outstanding community leader. She will be honored at the CTAT awards luncheon on July 17.

ACC Business Services cashiering function was cited as an example of what to strive for in the State Comptroller's report to Houston Community College. ACC's Cashier Supervisor is Aaron Riethmayer

The Georgetown Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized Dr. Mary Hensley, AVP for Instructional Support Services, for her leadership in Information Technology Education for Central Texas. Georgetown ISD is one of seven pilot school districts in ACC's National Science Foundation Information Technology (IT) grant. The program facilitates and supports an overview of eight Information Technology career pathways including: Computer Maintenance, Computer Networking, Programming, Web Design and Development, Technical Writing, Digital Media, Database Administration, and Enterprise Systems Analysis and Engineering. Georgetown ISD Information Technology teachers and students were also recognized.

ACC recently helped sponsor the 2003 Texas Scholars Recognition Event, which honors ISD students for completing the Recommended High School Program. The May 9 event celebrated the achievement of 2700 high school students. Dr. Mary Hensley represented ACC at this ceremony.
