The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recently forwarded to ACC the report of the College's institutional effectiveness information and data review (desk review). The College met completion rates in the following:

Completion rates for full-time first-time-in-college students not receiving remediation were 58% receiving a degree or certificate or transferred within three years. The established standard is 35.87%.

Completion rates for full-time first-time-in-college students receiving remediation were 37% receiving a degree or certificate or transferred within three years. The established standard is 35.87%.

The college met the standards for retention rates of full-time first time-in-college students who did and did not receive remediation in the fall semester and returned the following spring semester with 80% returning. The state average was 78%.

The college met or exceeded the standard for this area in academic, technical, workforce development, and continuing education.
Dan Grangaard, adjunct professor, was notified that his research study on Personality Characteristics and Favorite Topics of Students Enrolled in Introduction to Psychology, Honors, will be published in the
Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council. He did the study in his Honors Introduction to Psychology course.
Students
The Office of Student Life, headed by
Cheryl Richard, Coordinator, and Stacy Wooten, Specialist, recently hosted the
Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges Ceremony and reception. Over 50 ACC students were honored for their achievement in community and college involvement. Speakers included
Kathleen Christensen, Associate Vice President, Retention and Student Services,
Judy Sanders, Honors Program, and Sharon King, Director, Support Services.
Curtis Voelkel and Tom Husak, Music professor, provided the music, and a special performance by ACC student,
Iman Dryef was featured.
ACC's student newspaper, ACCENT, won 2nd place in the "Best of Show," Division 2 Broadsheet category at the 2003 TIPA (Texas Intercollegiate Press Association) convention held in Corpus Christi. This was the first time for ACC's ACCENT to compete and it placed second to Southwest Texas. Accolades go to
Student Life staff person, Tania Guinsberg.
ACC screenwriting student, Cory Barnett, has been accepted into the RTF graduate school at the University of Texas.
Staff
The final report from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on
Efficiencies at Texas Public Institutions of Higher Education has been published. ACC's examples included in the report were the Budget Management System, e-Staffing System, e-Time System, Faculty Agreement System, Online Personnel Authorization System, and the Records Management Imaging System. These initiatives affect all units of the College, and were developed by Information Technology, headed by
Bill Carter, Associate Vice President, Human Resources, Gerry
Tucker, Associate Vice President, and Records Management, Kay
Barclay, Manager.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Tech-Prep Site Visit team reported their preliminary findings to ACC staff on May 1. ACC received a "glowing" verbal report of excellent findings! The audit team will forward a final report by mail. Thanks and appreciation are extended to Sharyl Kincaid, Executive Director, and her "terrific" Tech-Prep team, composed of Rebecca Francis, Minnie Camarillo, Cecilia Padilla,
Michael Svoboda, and John Milburn.
Mary Hensley, Associate Vice President, Instructional Support Services, has served as a tri-chairperson on the Johnston High School Futures Committee, which has determined and recommended future school-to-work programs for Johnson High School. The committee presented a summary report to the AISD Cabinet and to the AISD Board of Trustees, and on June 10, Dr. Hensley will join Dr. Forgione, AISD Superintendent, and Dr. McLarty, Deputy Superintendent, to present the committee's recommendations to the Austin City Council and AISD.
Mary Hensley also served on the Executive Council Chairs for the CEO Summit and the College and Career Summit, and Agenda Committee for the conference held on April 9 at the Austin Convention Center. Several topics covered ACC-related initiatives including the referendum, economic development, partnerships, and increasing the supply of health care professionals.
ACC was well represented at the American Association of Community Colleges national conference in Dallas.
Ron Brey, Associate Vice President, Instructional Resources and Technology, and
Julie Todaro, Dean, Library Services, made presentations on Successful Distance Learning Faculty: Best Practices and Recommendations and
A Guided Web Tour of Best Practices in Support of Remote Student Users. President
Richard Fonté, Steve Kinslow, Executive Vice President, and
Ed Osborn, Marketing Executive also gave a presentation entitled, Value-Based
Communications.
Terry Bazan, Director of Student Financial Assistance, has been asked to serve as the Texas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (TASFAA) representative to the Texas Professional Association Collaborative of Community Colleges (TPACC).
Leslie Sabin, Controller of Business Services, has been appointed chair of the financial statement sub-committee of the GASB Implementation Taskforce of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The ACT Center, headed by Michiel Davis, has been certified to deliver the Transportation Security Administration Screener Assessment Battery (TSA-SAB) test.
