The Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) has selected Adult Education instructor Jean Marie Theine for the Edgar M. Easley Award for Outstanding Teacher of the Year. COABE is a national organization that provides leadership, communication, professional development, and advocacy for adult education and literacy practitioners.
The Texas State University-San Marcos Alumni Association presented biology adjunct instructor Rodney Rohde with a 2004 Alumni Achievement Award on Feb. 26. Rohde also has secured a Texas State research enhancement grant and a contract with the Texas Department of State Health Services to continue a prevalence study of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in a Travis County prison.
Management and economics adjunct instructor Kenneth Smith and speech adjunct instructor Verena Edwards are participating in the Statewide Academy for Part-Time Teachers.
Riverside building attendants Zjok McLin and David Murillo received their Building Attendant Certification on Feb. 18.
Terry Stewart Mouchayleh, director of professional development, was elected vice president of the Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA) at its convention Feb. 17-19 at the Renaissance Hotel-Austin.
