Dr. Mary Hensley, vice president of college support systems and ISD relations, facilitated a Community Action Network (CAN) retreat on Oct. 19 at the Goodwill Community Center. The retreat determined 2006 focus areas for the CAN, which works toward sustainable social, health, educational, and economic outcomes through community actions and resources.

The Texas Society of Allied Health Professions honored Dr. Rodney Rohde, adjunct professor of biology, with a research award at the group's annual meeting Sept. 29.

Ann Dillon, adjunct professor of developmental communications, has authored a college study skills textbook scheduled for publication in fall 2006 by Thomson Wadsworth.

ACC administrators continue to respond to requests from colleges and school districts for information on College Connection and the College and Career Preparatory Program partnership with Austin Independent School District. Dr. Hensley, Mark Kincaid, College and Career Preparatory Programs director, and Dr. Luanne Preston, Early College Start/College Connection executive director, have made or scheduled presentations to the following:

  • Hays CISD Board of Trustees
  • Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees
  • Temple College
  • Houston Community College
  • Houston ISD
  • Coastal Bend College
  • Victoria College

Dr. Julie Todaro, dean of library services, served as an expert panelist for an Oct. 26 Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce discussion on "The Dollars and Sense of a Great Library." The talk spotlighted innovations taking place at the region's higher education institutions and the services and the role of libraries in the future.
