FACULTY & STAFF

Career Assessment Specialist Joyce Pope-Cain and Counselor Ross Oliver recently attended the awards portion of the Vector Marketing conference in Austin to accept a $3,000 donation to ACC. The funds will be used for ACC’s Career Centers to assist students as they develop a plan to achieve their career and educational goals. ACC students were “top producers” in a four-state region for Vector, which hires and trains college students to sell Cutco cutlery.

Dr. Andres Tijerina, professor of history, drafted legislation approved recently by the Texas Legislature to appropriate $602,000 for a Tejano monument to be erected on the Capitol grounds. Tijerina chairs the statewide committee working to build the monument, planned to honor the contributions of the state’s Tejano settlers. The committee has raised approximately $1.2 million of the total $1.6 million needed to erect the monument, and Tijerina is now directing an effort to request the governor’s support to raise the last $400,000. Others who have supported the monument funding effort include ACC history professors Larry Willoughby and L. Patrick Hughes.

Arts and Humanities Division Dean Lyman Grant has written the articles “Finding Grace” and “Teaching Creativity” that appear in the summer issue of Creativity Pulse magazine. The same issue also features the article “ACC: Making Entertainment the Main Course,” about the ACC task force exploring the possibility of a new Entertainment and Digital Arts Institute.

The Austin Business Journal profiled Dr. Julie Todaro, dean of library services, in its 11th annual Profiles in Power supplement that appeared in the newspaper’s Aug. 8-14 edition.
