The Drama Department and ProArts Collective co-presented a play and panel discussion spotlighting the work of award-winning playwright Adrienne Kennedy. The panel discussion, “Adrienne Kennedy and Autobiography on the American Stage,” was held February 22 at the Eastview Campus. The play “Funnyhouse of a Negro” opened February 23 for two weekends in the Rio Grande Campus Gallery Theater. Austin Community College, through the efforts of drama Assistant Professor Marcus McQuirter, was awarded a $1,000 Humanities Texas grant to fund the panel discussion.
Student Recruitment Manager K. Leigh Hamm-Forell has authored the report “Ideas in Practice: Bringin’ Hip-Hop to the Basics” published in the winter 2006 edition of the Journal of Developmental Education.
Dr. Mary Hensley, vice president of college support systems and ISD relations, was selected to join the Texas ACT Council, a regional advisory board of ACT Inc. She also gave College Connection presentations at the January 25 meeting of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the February 5 meeting of the Texas P-16 Council, and the Feb. 16 meeting of the Texas Common Application Advisory Committee.
Dr. Kathleen Christensen, vice president of student support and success systems, participated in a panel presentation titled “College Success for Students from Foster Care – Support Systems that Work.” The presentation was part of the First-Year Experience Conference held February 19-20 in Dallas.
Student Services Dean Magdalena de la Teja, Ph.D., was elected president-elect of Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE) during the organization’s annual conference February 1-3 in Dallas. Dr. de la Teja and Dr. Richard Armenta, associate vice president of student success, gave a College Connection presentation while there. ACC Board Chair John Hernandez also attended.
Linda Kluck, director of admissions and records, was selected to join the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s ApplyTexas Advisory Committee for Two-Year Institutions.
