Dr. Kathleen Christensen, vice president of student support and success systems, has been named president-elect of the Texas Association of Community College Chief Student Affairs Administrators.
Adjunct English Professor Joe O’Connell’s novel Evacuation Plan: A Novel from the Hospice, reached No. 1 on the Austin American-Statesman’s best-seller list. One of the novel’s stories, “The Gambler,” has been adapted to a play that will be performed during the 2008 Frontera Fest. O’Connell was featured October 10 on “Writing Across Texas,” a TV series airing on Cable Ch. 10.
Ellie Collier, assistant professor of library services, is one of only 120 librarians selected nationwide for the American Library Association’s Emerging Leader program for 2008. Collier will serve a two-year volunteer leadership term after going through training at the ALA’s midwinter meeting in Philadelphia and the annual conference in Anaheim, Calif.
Internal Audit Director Imad Mouchayleh authored the report “The Model Approach,” published in the October 2007 edition of Internal Auditor magazine. He also gave the presentation “Risk Management: Is It a Process or an Approach?” at the Association of College and University Auditors annual conference September 30-October 4 in Atlanta.
Gerry Tucker, vice president of human resources, authored the report “Managing Difficult Communication” published in the October 2007 edition of the Texas Bar Journal.
Two watercolor paintings by English Professor Paula Robertson-Rose, Ph.D., were featured in the 29th annual Fall Juried Exhibition of the Waterloo Watercolor Group, held October 3-28 at North Hills Gallery.
Pam Soto, chair of the Personal Fitness Trainer Program, was featured in the report “Road to Fitness Begins with One Step,” published in the October 10 edition of the Austin American-Statesman’s “To Your Health” supplement.
Continuing Education Coordinator Bob McGoldrick participated on an innovation experts panel during a recent employee training day at the Texas Comptroller’s Office. The panel’s topic was “Texas Innovators and Their Stories to Inspire Your Creative Mind.”
Dr. Donetta Goodall, vice president of academic transfer, general and developmental education, visited Pensacola (Fla.) Junior College October 11-13 as part of an on-site accreditation review committee for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She also presented in the Woodlands at the joint conference October 17-19 for the College Reading and Learning Association and the College Academic Support Programs. Her topics were “The Legislative Intent and Educational Impact of House Bill 1” and “The Recommendations of the P-16 Subcommittee on Developmental Education.”
English Professor Katherine Staples, Ph.D., has been accepted for inclusion in the 2006-2007 Who’s Who Among American Teachers and Educators.
