3D animation student Cleveland Dear won first prize in the Design Challenge category of “The Digital Game Design Competition: Game Court 2007,” a yearly UT Science & Technology event co-hosted by UT’s EGADS student game developers group and ACC’s Continuing Education. The challenge was to
create a game concept defying violent and sexist themes that stereotype many popular digital games. The winning digital game concept incorporated blue-sky thinking, changed the rules of play, and had to be fun.
Graphic design student Ashlea Godwin traveled to San Francisco in August to attend the Adobe Design Achievement Awards Gala, held at the de Young Museum. Godwin’s package design, Transfusion Self Medicating Beverage, won an Honorable Mention in the Environmental Graphics and Packaging category. Her project is part of the online gallery at www.adaagallery.com.
The Texas Professional Photographers Association recently honored 10 ACC students at the Kerrville Summer Seminar. Photography faculty Lynn Jones and Kathryn Watts-Martinez led the group that included Kyle Barker, Wes Garbee, Dustin Garland, Diem Nguyen, Kenneth Nordhauser, Summer Pursley, Stacey Simpson, and Elizabeth Williams. Many of their works were featured in the awards gallery after earning Merit Print or Master of Photography status. In addition, the following ACC students were awarded trophies: Julia Klingeman, Best Portrait; Jennifer Brown, Best Illustrative/Unclassified Photo; and Amy Smith, Best Commercial/Industrial Photo and Best Image by a Student. Mark Truesdale received a Judge’s Choice ribbon.
Directly following the Virginia Tech tragedy, ACC students shared their grief and condolences to fellow students by writing notes, letters, and poetry on life condolences books. This activity, through Student Life, was offered on all seven campuses and forwarded to the Virginia Tech Student Body. Austin Community College recently received a heartfelt thank you note from the Virginia Tech Student Activities staff.
