What qualifies for media promotion?
Media look for stories that are unique, showcase a new idea or program, are relevant to current events, and/or have an impact on the broad community.
How do I get publicity for my class or department?
You've come to the right place. Public Information and College Marketing's communications team will help determine the best way to get the word out about your area. We're always looking for stories to tell in the community and regularly check in with various departments about what's noteworthy around the college. But we can't promote it if we don't know about it - so tell us your story ideas.
Okay. How do I tell you about my idea?
Alexis Patterson Hanes is the senior public information coordinator and oversees external communication. If you have a story that you think is newsworthy, contact Alexis at (512) 223.7596 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You may be asked to fill out a marketing needs request form. It's best to give us as much lead time as possible to evaluate the idea and pitch the story externally.
What publicity might I get?
Our department works with local, regional, and national media to promote college news. We also oversee the Speakers and Experts Bureau, which connects ACC experts (that's you) with reporters and community groups.
I am an expert, aren't I?
That's right. We get requests for speakers on various topics, and ACC faculty and staff are all experts in their own areas. Being part of the Speakers and Experts Bureau isn't time consuming; we just keep you in our roster, and when opportunities to use your expertise arise, we let you know. Want to sign up?Contact:

What if I'm contacted by the media?
Media are required to contact Public Information and College Marketing to arrange campus visits and interviews. If you receive a media call or a reporter shows up on campus, contact Alexis at (512) 223.7596. Tips for Media Interviews
- Be brief and concise.
- Establish and maintain eye contact.
- Solid, darker colors look best on camera. Avoid solid black/white and busy patterns.
