Outcome #1
Outcome Title: Elementary Algebra Prepares for Intermediate Algebra
Assessment of Outcome
Intended Outcome: Elementary Algebra prepares students for success in Intermediate Algebra.
Assessment Procedure: Follow up studies will indicate that of the students who enroll in Intermediate Algebra (DVM 1193) for the first time after completing Elementary Algebra (DVM 1173) at ACC within the previous two semesters and with a grade of A, B, or C, 50% will complete Intermediate Algebra with an A, B, or C. Specifically, the study will consider students who took DVM 1193 at ACC for the first time in the spring of 1997 after completing DVM 1173 at ACC in the summer or fall of 1996 with a grade of A, B, or C, and who did not take an intervening math course.
Methodology: Follow up study using ACC's computerized historical student data
Summary and Analysis of Data
Results: Two hundred fifty-seven (257) students were in the group targeted for study: students who took DVM 1193 (Intermediate Algebra) for the first time in the fall of 1998 after completing DVM 1173 (Elementary Algebra) at ACC in the summer or spring of 1998 with a grade of A, B, or C, and who did not take an intervening math course. Of these 257 students, 146 or 56.8% passed DVM 1193 with a grade of A, B, or C. This result exceeds the criterion of 50% set by the Mathematics Task Force.
Plans for Improvement: Pending.

Outcome #2
Outcome Title: Intermediate Algebra Prepares for Trigonometry
Assessment of Outcome
Intended Outcome: Intermediate Algebra prepares students for success in Trigonometry.
Assessment Procedure: Follow up studies will indicate that of the students who enroll in Trigonometry (MTH 1753) for the first time after completing Intermediate Algebra (DVM 1193) at ACC within the two previous semesters and with a grade of A or B, and who have not taken a 1600 or higher mathematics course, 50% will complete Trigonometry with an A, B, or C. Specifically, the study will consider students who took MTH 1753 at ACC for the first time in the spring of 1997 after completing DVM 1193 at ACC in the summer or fall of 1996 with a grade of A or B, and who did not take an intervening math course.
Methodology: Follow up study using ACC's computerized historical student data
Summary and Analysis of Data
Results: Eight (8) students were in the group targeted for study: students who took MTH 1753 (Trigonometry) for the first time in the fall of 1998 after completing DVM 1193 (Intermediate Algebra) at ACC in the summer or spring of 1998 with a grade of A or B, and who did not take an intervening math course. Of these 8 students, 2 or 25% passed MTH 1753 with a grade of A, B, or C. This result does not meet the criterion of 50% set by the Mathematics Task Force
Plans for Improvement: Pending.

Outcome #3
Outcome Title: College Algebra Prepares for Trigonometry
Assessment of Outcome
Intended Outcome: College Algebra prepares students for success in Trigonometry.
Assessment Procedure: Follow up studies will indicate that of the students who enroll in Trigonometry (MTH 1753) for the first time after completing College Algebra (MTH 1743) at ACC within the two previous semesters and with a grade of A, B, or C, 50% will complete Trigonometry with an A, B, or C. Specifically, the study will consider students who took MTH 1753 at ACC for the first time in the spring of 1997 after completing MTH 1743 at ACC in the summer or fall of 1996 with a grade of A, B, or C, and who did not take an intervening math course.
Methodology: Follow up study using ACC's computerized historical student data
Summary and Analysis of Data
Results: One hundred fourteen (114) students were in the group targeted for study: students who took MTH 1753 (Trigonometry) for the first time in the fall of 1998 after completing MTH 1743 (College Algebra) at ACC in the summer or spring of 1998 with a grade of A, B, or C, and who did not take an intervening math course. Of these 114 students, 66 or 57.9% passed MTH 1753 with a grade of A, B, or C. This result exceeds the criterion of 50% set by the Mathematics Task Force.
Plans for Improvement: Pending.

Outcome #4
Outcome Title: College Precalculus Prepares for Calculus I
Assessment of Outcome
Intended Outcome: College Precalculus prepares students for success in Calculus I.
Assessment Procedure: Follow up studies will indicate that of the students who enroll in Calculus I (MTH 1854) for the first time after completing Precalculus (MTH 1764) at ACC within the two previous semesters and with a grade of A, B, or C, 50% will complete Calculus I with an A, B, or C.
Methodology: Follow up study using ACC's computerized historical student data
Summary and Analysis of Data
Results: Fifty-six (56) students were in the group targeted for study: students who took MTH 1854 (Calculus I) for the first time in the fall of 1998 after completing MTH 1764 (Precalculus) at ACC in the summer or spring of 1998 with a grade of A, B, or C, and who did not take an intervening math course. Of these 56 students, 28 or 50.0% passed MTH 1854 with a grade of A, B, or C. This result meets the criterion of 50% set by the Mathematics Task Force.
Plans for Improvement: Pending.
