2008 OUTSTANDING BUSINESS STUDIES PROFESSOR

Ina Midkiff is the Department Head of Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, and Real Estate.  She has taught at Austin Community College for over 20 years.  She earned a BBA and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Tarleton State University. Over the years she has served as Division Chair of Business Studies Division, Department Chair of Management, Associate Dean at Cypress Creek Campus, Assistant Department Chair of Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, and Real Estate and served as an officer of Austin Community College’s Faculty Association. She also has had several consulting jobs for small Internet companies. She teaches Advertising, Marketing, and Financial Management courses.

She received the ACC Teaching Excellence Award for the outstanding full-time faculty member (2004-2005) of the year in May 2005. She was the 2002 Piper Professor Nominee from Austin Community College.  In 1991 she received the NISOD Teaching Excellence Award at ACC and has been nominated several times as the outstanding full-time instructor at ACC by the Phi Theta Kappa student association.  Her professional affiliations include Texas Community College Teachers Association and the Southwestern Administrative Disciplines in Marketing.  She also serves on the YMCA Northwest Board of Directors.

Nick Sarantakes has been at Austin Community College’s Rio Grande Campus for 26 years and prior to that he was employed by the U. S. Government for 22 years.  He has worked extensively in many marketing positions that include retail, logistics, sales, and e-commerce. He served as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin for 3 years. In addition, he served at ACC as an Adjunct Instructor in Management, Full Time Instructor in Management, Department Chair in Marketing, and later as Assistant Dean for Business Studies, and Department Chair for Marketing, Real Estate, and Financial Management.  He is a past President of the Full Time Faculty Association.  Currently he instructs the following courses, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Retailing, Principles of Salesmanship, and Customer Relations.  He has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, observing international marketing activities.

Mr. Sarantakes holds 2 Associate Degrees from ACC, a Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Science Degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  He was honored by receiving the NISOD Teaching Excellence Award which is awarded by the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin.  His professional affiliations include the Texas Community College Teachers Association and the Southwestern Administrative Disciplines in Marketing.  He has authored a Student Study Guide for a major marketing textbook.  His academic interests are in small business marketing, the automobile industry marketing and the airline industry marketing.

Margie has been with ACC for 19 years and in the Business Studies area for 18 years.  Her first position with the college was in the Professional Development Department. After a year she transferred to The Business Studies area where she has been the Administrative Assistant for the Financial Management, Marketing, and Real Estate Departments.  Recently, the departments and Margie have relocated to the Cypress Campus.

Margie has served on numerous ACC committees along with holding several officer positions within the ACC Classified Employee Association.  During her term as President of the Classified Association she campaigned for Stipends for Classified officers, equal cost living raise for all employees including frozen employees and helped to organize the first College-wide ACC Picnic and softball tournament.

Diane provides technical assistance for the marketing department and assists marketing web site contributors with editorial and publishing-related issues. She designs, administers and maintains the information contributed to ensure the continued and future effectiveness of the marketing & fachion marketing, financial management and real estate departmental web sites

Diane Hale has 11 years overall experience in a networking environment, 6 years experience with web design, and 7 years experience in an educational environment. She was appointed to the ACC Vice President's Advisory Committee in 1997. Diane is manager and assistant manager of several Internet web communities. In addition to Dreamweaver web design software, her technical training includes courses in implementing Internet Explorer, administering, deploying and suppporting SMS, supporting and administering Windows NT and courses in the concepts and administration of Microsoft Exchange Server. She has experience with NT and Novell network operating systems, Microsoft Exchange, SMS, NT Workstation, Windows 9x, MS Office Suites, as well as a variety of specialized software.

Rita Banninger is an Adjunct Professor in the Marketing Department teaching Fashion Merchandising courses through Distance Learning.  Rita has been teaching for ACC since the fall of 2004.  She earned a B.S. in Human Ecology, with a major in Fashion Design from Kansas State University.  She teaches Introduction to Fashion and Fashion Trends for the department.

Rita's fashion background includes working in jewelry retail in Manhattan, Kansas, doing window displays and sales as well as being coordinating stylist for the Museum of Natural History art opening the winter of 1990, Austin, TX.  She also enjoys sewing and has done various sewing projects from altering a vintage 1950's wedding gown to costuming for local theater.  Rita was nominated for an Austin Circle of Theater Award for Outstanding Costume Design for the theater production of "The Beggar's Opera," produced by The Public Domain Theater, 1995.  Recently she has been sewing and marketing women's hats. Rita also helps with the Pinnacle Campus Meals-on-Wheels route delivery.

Gloria is a native Austinite and received her Bachelors in Marketing from Southwest Texas in 1993. She worked in the Retail Management/Customer Service industry for five years. She obtained her teaching certification in Business and began teaching at Georgetown High School where she taught for 5 years Business Communciation Information Systems(B.C.I.S), Business Multimedia Management and Principles of Marketing. She loved the marketing courses so much that within those five years she returned to Southwest to complete a second teacher certification in Marketing. During the summer of 2000, Gloria completed an Internship with Austin Community College assisting with the Principle of Marketing Courses. At that point she really wanted to be a part of the ACC Marketing staff. In 2004 her she begin her adjunct position teaching the Principles of Marketing class at ACC and has enjoyed every minute of it. She has now been at McNeil High School for the 4 years teaching Marketing courses and sponsoring DECA, an Marketing Association for High School Students. She enjoys her students, what she teaches and plans to retire in this field.

Gloria received the NISOD award for her excellent teaching skills in 2008. She has professional membership in the Marketing Education Teachers Association as well as National Business Education Teachers Association.

Betty Helton is a member of the Adjunct Faculty of the Marketing and Fashion Marketing departments.  She has taught at Austin Community College for nineteen years.  She earned her BS from the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with highest honors.  She went on to earn her MEd from Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University).  Her teaching experience includes 25 years of Marketing Education instruction at McCallum High School, Austin Independent School District.  As an Adjunct Faculty member at Austin Community College, she has taught Principles of Marketing, Marketing Research, Consumer Behavior Business Ethics, Introduction to Business, Principles of Management, Management Motivation, Supervisory Management, Introduction to Fashion, Textiles, Visual Merchandising, and Fashion Trends.  During summer sessions, 1987-l998, she served as a Adjunct Faculty member, teaching Graduate classes at Southwest Texas State University.

The University of Texas published a book authored by her, Mathematics:  Essential for Marketing, in 1991.  She was named High School Teacher of the Year by Austin Independent School District in 1988 and named National Marketing Teacher of the Year in 1992 by the American Vocational Association.  In 1999 she received the NISOD Teaching Excellence Award from Austin Community College.  From 1993-1995 she served on the Texas Governor’s Texas Council for Workforce and Economic Competitiveness (TECWC) and chaired the Texas Youth Apprenticeship and Career Pathway Committee.  Selected to Leadership Austin in 1992, she served on the Steering Committee 1992-1994.  She has served on the Austin Community College Marketing advisory Committee since 1989.

Pat Patton has been a member of the adjunct faculty in the Marketing Department since 1975.  Pat has taught Marketing, Marketing Research, Advertising, Sales, Public Relations, Advanced Advertising (Campaigns), Business Finance, Business Management, International Marketing, and Consumer Behavior. 
                                                                                   
In 1998 Pat received the NISOD award which recognizes outstanding national community college part-time faculty members.  He has developed and performed innovative training and teaching programs, as well as developed workforce development programs under federally funded research grants.  He owns and manages his own International Marketing Firm. Pat holds the following degrees:  Double BBA in Marketing and Management from the University of Texas at Austin, 1973, Masters in International Marketing from the University of Greenwich (London), 2001, Associates Degree in Real Estate from Austin Community College, 2008.

Steve Price is an adjunct instructor in Marketing. Previously, he taught advertising at Texas State University. His experience includes new product launches, brand identity work, marketing research, advertising and integrated marketing communications campaigns, media strategy, and a host of other marketing intitiatives. He earned a BA in Journalism at the University of Kansas and attended University of Texas Graduate School of Business. Since retiring in 2006 and moving to Austin, Steve continues to do some consulting work with advertising agencies in addition to teaching.

Steve has spent nearly 30 years in the advertising and marketing communications industry. His career has spanned executive and management positions at some of the world's top marketing communications companies including DDB and Publicis. Most recently, he served as Chairman/CEO of Publicis in Mid America where his organization partnered with some the top global marketers including BMW, GlaxoSmithKline, Nestle, Anheuser Busch, among others.

Kathy Walton is an adjunct faculty member at ACC and has taught Marketing, Fashion Merchandising/Design, and Management classes at several institutions for over 25 years.  Those institutions include Austin Community College, Salt Lake Community College, Purdue University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  She earned a BS at New Mexico State University in Home Economics in Business (fashion focused); MS at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Home Economics with a Merchandising emphasis; and a PhD in Education focusing on Community and Human Resources.  In addition to serving as a faculty member and occasional department coordinator at Purdue and SLCC, she has served as the Director of Community Education at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, TX and is currently the Executive Director of Customized Training at ACC.  Kathy has also served as a consultant/industry trainer to numerous companies throughout the country through her consulting firm, Magistra Enterprises.

Kathy has been very active with Delta Epsilon Chi, a student organization for people interested in careers in Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship.  She has been a chapter advisor, state advisor, regional board representative, and served on the National Board of Directors as the secretary, president-elect, and as the President.  She has received numerous awards from Delta Epsilon Chi including Texas Advisor of the Year, 25 Years of Service, and the Honorary Life Member Award in 2007(the highest award given in the organization).  In addition, she received the NISOD Teaching Excellence Award from UT-Austin in 1995; the Teaching Excellence Award from SLCC in 1989; Marketing Teacher of the Year for the state of Utah in 1987, 1990, and 1999; Utah Vocational Educator of the Year in 2000, and the Top 100 Alumni from the Past 100 Years at NMSU in 1988.  She is active in the Texas Association of Continuing Education and is a Travis County Master Gardener.
