Spirit Award Survey

In response to submitted comments about the Spirit Award, the Open Communications Committee prepared a written ballot and surveyed the CE staff. The count was performed on July 16, 2003 in the presence of Jerry Haba, Donna Harmon, Marcela Nouzovska, and Linda Schulz.

The total of 25 responses was received. Fourteen (14) participants selected "No" answer to the first question: "Should CE continue the Spirit Award? " Eleven (11) selected the "Yes" answer. Out of those 11 answers, 7 CE members feel that the Spirit Award could be presented only once a month, 3 suggested once a week and one selected the "other" answer suggesting the frequency every other week.

On July 21, 2003, the Leadership Team reviewed the results of the poll taken regarding the CE Spirit Award, noting that a majority of  "No" votes indicated that a change was necessary. After considerable discussion, the team concluded that the current Spirit Award should be retired. In its place, the team recommended that we establish an award which would recognize those who went above and beyond their day-to-day duties with truly outstanding efforts to improve the degree of service for both internal and external customers. Again, following the results of the poll, the team recommended that the award be given monthly based upon nominations submitted by CE staff members through their directors. The award would be called the "You Make a Difference Award."

Celebration Survey

The Open Communications Committee received two comments on May 12, 2003, one via the confidential website and one via the suggestion box. Both commented on the frequency of birthday celebrations and the potluck lunches, citing the time, effort, and expense particularly for the potluck lunches. The website comment also asked how the Celebrations Committee tracks the funds collected from the CE Store and other events.

In response, the OCC prepared a written ballot and surveyed the CE staff at large. The results of the survey indicated clearly that birthday celebrations should be held monthly as they currently are. On the other hand, the CE staff was split evenly between the responses, "Once a Month" and "Every 3 Months." Each of these options received 16 votes.

The Leadership team reviewed the survey results this morning (June 2, 2003) and recommended that birthday celebrations should continue to be held monthly but that the potluck lunches should be held every two months instead of monthly. In addition, the Celebrations Committee is preparing the requested revenue and expense report for the Dean's review. The OCC thanks everyone for participating in the survey and for their interest in maintaining an environment in which ideas, comments, and suggestions can be shared openly.

Results of the survey conducted in May 2003 by Open Communications Committee.
