The meeting of the Open Communications Committee (OCC) was held on September 11, 2003.
Attending: Donna Harmon, Jerry Haba, Doug Mitchell, Sharon Pierce, Linda Schulz, Tina Webb Davis, Liz Westfall.
The committee discussed how the submitted nominees for the You Make a Difference Award were to be selected. Winners could be selected (1) based upon the number of entries submitted per nominee, (2) as drawn from all the entries submitted, or (3) based on the merit of the written nominations. The group finally agreed to vote by secret ballot for the nominee of choice for this first time.
The Committee thought that a special award certificate should be given to everyone who was nominated. In fact, there was interest in not having just one award winner but rather recognizing everyone submitted as award winners. In this regard, the Committee thought that a central location should be selected for the actual trophy and that the award winners for that month would have their names posted on or near the trophy. Sharon Pierce volunteered to prepare a draft of the special certificate.
Jesse Gonzalez was selected for this month's award.
