Meeting Minutes - March 28, 2002
The first meeting of the Marketing Committee was held on March 28, 2002.
Attending: Jerry Haba, David McGilvray, Brunch Milaszewski, Marcela Nouzovska, Barbara Opyt, Sharon Pierce, Letty Rodriguez, Anna Steele, Kirk White
- Reviewed the February 2002 employment data compiled by the Greater Austin Area Workforce Board to determine job trends, training needs, and potential marketing opportunities. Noted that the Health Services area was up 3.2% for the quarter while the Manufacturing and Information sectors were down 7% and 4.3% respectively. These latter two sectors largely represent the area's technology industries.
- Reviewed the College's policy on spam and the general ineffectiveness of Internet advertising. Agreed to consider post card mailings directed toward specific target markets, noting the post cards are more easily read than brochures and cheaper to mail.
- Discussed ways to market our online courses globally. Decided to pursue free listserves such Women In Technology and open international chat rooms.
- Reviewed and critiqued the draft High Technology Institute logo and recommended changes.
- Decided to build a Marketing Committee website which will be linked to the Dean's page. The site will be used to solicit new marketing initiatives from the staff.
The next meeting of the Marketing Committee will be May 2, 2002 at 1:00pm.
