MATD 0330 Basic Math Skills

Distance Learning Sections:

Spring 2012: Feb 13- May 11, 2012.
Orientation and Course Materials

This is such a good course! You'll develop your skills in problem-solving and increase your confidence in dealing with situations requiring mathematical and logical thinking. Many students find that mastery of the material in this course increases their self-confidence in dealing with other college classes as well as various situations in their personal and business affairs in which mathematics is used.

At ACC we have several learning options for you for this course. We have many classroom sections in three different formats - regular lecture/discussion, computer-mediated instruction, and a third option which we're calling course-redesign. If you want a classroom course, please ask for one. Distance Learning classes are only for students who really want to learn in that way.

Before you go further, please consider whether this is the right course for you. This is the first of a sequence of three courses which cover the school mathematics needed to prepare for College Algebra.

Basic Math Skills, MATD 0330
Elementary Algebra, MATD 0370
Intermediate Algebra, MATD 0390

Many students have already taken and passed courses covering this material in the past and merely need a review. It is important to consider how much review you really think you will need before you begin the sequence. Unfortunately it is common for students to start in the lowest course, do very well, and expect to skip one of the other courses in the sequence. That won't work. If you do want to complete your review more quickly, there are various options available.

There are several different entry-level college mathematics courses, so it is quite possible that College Algebra may not be the most appropriate course for your educational goal. And you may be able to prepare for some of these other courses more quickly.

If any of this raises doubts in your mind about whether MATD 0330 is the best course for you, please send me an email message and we'll arrange a way to discuss your specific situation.
