Course Rules
You are expected to keep up with the course calendar in terms of how many sections of material to cover each week. If you fall behind, you are expected to make progress in catching up in subsequent weeks. We will discuss whether you are making adequate progress in our weekly email messages. Most students who need instruction in the material in this course need to spend about 12 hours per week on it. If you miss doing the required work for two weeks during the course, you may be withdrawn for missing assignments in the course. (That's the equivalent of missing classes in a classroom course.) However, if you are spending enough time on it and just unable to go fast enough, we can work out a revised calendar for you. Just ask me for help on that. If you fail a test, it is even more important that you spend the required time on the course, doing the required activities. Please read about that now if you have just learned that you failed a test. Attendance: For some of you, this is a required developmental course. This means you have not satisfied the math portion of the TSI requirements and have been permitted to enroll in other credit courses only on the condition that you participate in this course. Consequently, I am required to keep track of your participation in the course. If you do not meet the minimum time commitment for the course (see immediately above) for two weeks, I may withdraw you from the course. Taking tests without meeting the software and email participation requirements for the course does not count as attendance and so students who are taking tests but not meeting the other requirements may be withdrawn. If you have computer problems at home, you can do your work in the Learning Labs. When you arrive at the Learning Lab, ask specifically to use the Academic Systems software. For more information, please read the important TSI notice below. (This notice appears in the course handout of all developmental math courses.)
* If you are unsure whether or not this warning applies to you, see an ACC advisor immediately. Withdrawals: Students may be dropped by their instructor for excessive absences or for failing to make sufficient progress. It is the student's responsibility to withdraw him/herself from the course if he/she stops participating for any reason. The withdrawal deadline is available from ACC's Academic Calendar at http://www.austincc.edu/catalog/ . For Fall 2009, the deadline is November 23, 2009. Reinstatement Policy: Students who withdrew or were withdrawn generally will not be reinstated unless they have completed all course work, including tests, necessary to be caught up as of the date at which they will be reinstated. Course policies on these topics are available in a different document: Scholastic Dishonesty, Student Discipline, Academic Freedom, Students with Disabilities, and information about Student Services.
Free tutoring is available at the Tutoring Centers (Learning Labs) at most ACC campuses. Visit http://www.austincc.edu/tutor for more information. Online tutoring is also available.
