MATD 0330 - Distance Learning - Testing

Material covered on each test: See the Course Calendar.

Deadline Dates: These are deadlines for tests, to submit the corresponding homework, and to submit the corresponding software lessons.

The deadline for taking any additional quizzes in the software to improve your grades is the same as the deadline for the last test.

Footnote about test dates: To take tests after the deadline, you must read the information about late tests and ask permission by filling out the form. If you take a test late without permission, there is a SUBSTANTIAL automatic grade penalty. It is not very difficult to obtain permission.

You may take tests earlier than the indicated dates if you can show that you are completing the material at a faster pace than the course calendar requires. Ask me by email in advance when the specific test you want early is available.

You must take each test at your designated ACC testing center during the dates it is scheduled to be available. Visit http://www.austincc.edu/testctr/ for information about testing center locations, policies and procedures. Remember that:

1. The tests are NOT timed. But you may not leave the Testing Center during the test. Most students finish Test 1 in about 45 minutes to 1 hour. You should allow yourself at least 1 1/2 hours and preferably allow yourself even longer, just so you don't feel hurried.

2. You will need to know this information about your course.

Synonym number:
Course Number: MATD 0330
Test Number: Test #1 (will change with each test)
Instructor Name: Mary Parker
Instructor Home Campus: Northridge

3. You will need to show a current ACC ID (which has a photo.) Try to get your ID before the first test, but I believe you can use a current fee receipt AND a valid driver's license or passport. Obtain your ID from a campus Admissions and Records office after the first week of classes. You may get a copy of your fee receipt from a campus Cashier's Office.

4. You must use the testing center that you selected on your online orientation form. If you need to change that, send me an email message asking to do so, at least a week before the next test starts, to allow me time to make the test available.

5. You need to bring pencils and eraser.
Blank paper will be provided for you at the testing center. When working the problems on the test, use as much paper as you need to show all of your work and answers together clearly and in an organized fashion. If they do not give you enough paper at first, after you use what you have, ask for more. Do not ask for scratch paper so that you can do your work on the scratch paper. Show all the work and answer for each problem together on the regular paper they give you. If you feel that you are unable to work without some scratch paper, simply take one of the sheets they give you and use it for scratch paper. You must turn in all of the paper at the end of the test, of course.
On the Final Exam you will be allowed to use a simple calculator. If, for some reason, your calculator breaks while you are taking a test, probably you can borrow one from the Testing Center. Feel free to ask.

6. The tests are similar to the paper homework. (Here's some discussion of how to review for the tests.) They WILL NOT be graded in the Testing Center -- the Testing Center will send the tests to me after the deadline and I will grade all of them at the same time. Those grades will usually be posted about a week after the deadline. You'll find those grades posted in the online gradebook. (You'll need your student ID number to access it. Look at your student ID or fee receipt to find it.)

7. Test instructions for Test 1 | Test instructions for Test 2 | Please look over them now and ask me any questions you have about them BEFORE you go to the test. It is very important that you show all your work and answer for each problem in the same place. DO NOT make a separate page of answers. I need to see your work and answers together in order to grade it.

This is not a self-paced course. Students must complete the tests on time in order to finish the course by the end of the semester. If you will not be able to complete the tests on time, you may have extra time (except for the final exam) but there will be extra conditions. Ask me individually about this before the test deadline.

The deadline for the Final Exam depends on which Testing Center you are using. Because it takes longer for tests to be sent in from outlying sites, the Testing Centers have a rule that deadlines at those sites must be earlier than at the main campus.
