Developmental Algebra Courses

ACC's basic sequence to review / replace high school algebra is three courses:

  1. MATD 0350 (DVM 1153), Prealgebra
  2. MATD 0370 (DVM 1173), Elementary Algebra
  3. MATD 0390 (DVM 1193). Intermediate Algebra

If you want to complete this sequence in fewer than three semesters, you can either

  1. review enough material on your own to place into Elementary Algebra or Intermediate Algebra at first (or after a retest)
  2. take one of our "combined courses". One combines 0350 and 0370, and the other combines 0370 and 0390.

If you passed two years of high school algebra or if you passed one year of high school algebra and felt fairly comfortable about mathematics during that course, you should be able to review enough algebra to take a retest on the ACC Assessment Test and place out of at least Prealgebra and possibly Elementary Algebra. You may find our Prerequisite Review Sheets helpful. In order for it to affect your placement in the algebra sequence, you must take this test and score high enough BEFORE you begin an ACC developmental math course. Check with the Assessment Office at any of the campuses to arrange to take (or retake) the Assessment Test.

Only a few students choose the "fast-track" courses, so there are not very many sections offered. Look in the schedule now to see whether any of these are at a time and campus that fits your schedule. Then talk with someone in the math department at the appropriate campus to see whether you meet the qualifications for those courses.
