Mary ParkerDevelopmental Math 1153, PrealgebraFirst day handout | Metric system of measurement
I love teaching this course!! We get to further explore arithmetic - to extend what you learned before in public school or in our Basic Math Skills course - and we get to do a slow and careful introduction to algebra. If you have not had an algebra course before or if you feel that you never understood algebra and want to start with the very basics, this is the right course for you. In our class activities, we will explore different ways to learn the concepts and techniques in the course. It is very important that you be able to attend class each day for the entire class period. If you feel that you won't be able to do that, we must discuss it before you start missing class. After this course, you will need to take two more developmental math courses in order to prepare for MTH 1743, College Algebra, or MTH 1643, Math for Business and Economics. If you feel that you don't have time for all three semesters, you must explore the possibilities before this semester begins while you still have some different options. If your goal is simply to pass the TASP and the only college-credit math course you need to take is either MTH 1513, MTH 1563, or MTH 1583, then you may qualify for these after this course and one more course.Welcome to the course! I think we'll have fun while learning a lot of math!
