Lesson 4. Chapter 4. Scatterplots and Correlation (Relationships between two variables)
Covers part of Chapter 4. This is purposely a light lesson because I anticipate that some of the class will be behind at this point and need a light lesson. Lesson 5 is longer. If you finish early I recommend that you go on to Lesson 5 and do at least enough of it to finish the paper homework on Chapter 4. That will complete the material for Test 1.
Explanatory and Response Variables. p. 90-92. This topic is very important, but we'll talk about it for several lessons, so don't feel that you have to be able to answer all questions confidently after just this introduction.
Scatterplots. p. 92-98. Most of you can make a scatterplot by hand even before you read this. Skim through it to see how this tells you what you already knew and see if it adds anything to your previous understanding.
MINITAB If you didn't finish the MINITAB Orientation while you were doing the Orientation Activities, please do so now. The main task for this Lesson is to be sure you can use MINITAB.
Homework: Notice that we have not finished this Chapter in Moore, so you're not ready to do all the homework listed. You can start it, however, and just postpone anything about correlation.
Timing: If you have time, it will be useful for you to go on to Lesson 5 -- at least far enough to finish Chapter 4 in the book. That will get you ready for Test 1.
