OPEN CAMPUS OFFICE

TELEVISION PROGRAM VIEWING SUGGESTIONS

1. If there is a problem with video programs on cable, such as: a program doesn't play, the
wrong program plays or there are technical difficulties, please call the OPEN CAMPUS
OFFICE (223-8026) to report the problem and find out if a replay has been scheduled.
A.C.C. cannot know if there was a technical problem on any individual cable system unless
it is reported. Students can view missed programs at many A.C.C. LRS Media Centers. Re-
broadcasts will be scheduled whenever possible.

2. Most telecourse programs begin exactly on the hour and half-hour. A "video message
board" will air between programs, usually for about a minute and a half. If you are
recording the telecourse programs, set your VCR to begin recording a few minutes before
the first program is scheduled to begin and stop five minutes after the last program is
scheduled to end. This will ensure that you tape all the programs in case of a delay in the
cablecast due to technical difficulties.

3. We recommend that you program your VCR to record the FIRST possible
showing of your programs and check or view your tape BEFORE the repeat
broadcast, if there is one available on your cable system. This way you know as
soon as possible if you have actually recieved and taped the programs. One of the most
important factors in completing your course successfully is keeping up with
your reading and videos on a weekly basis.

4. If your VCR has an EP (extended play) setting, you can record an entire video
series on only a few videotapes. Keep and use your tapes to review for tests.

5. Tapes for most television courses are in the A.C.C. LRS Media Centers on each
campus. Refer to the Telecourse Info Sheet for viewing locations available for
your course. Tapes are available for LRS viewing on a first-come, first-served
basis. These tapes can be used for review, working ahead, or viewing programs
missed on cable.

6. For series that have student check-out video tapes, remember that there are many
other students utilizing this option and you cannot count on the availability of all
tapes at all times, especially at Rio Grande. If you cannot find the tape at your
campus, another campus may have the tape available. See your Telecourse Info
Sheet for other locations. You can call any LRS to check tape availability.
Library staff cannot reserve or hold a tape for you, but they can report the
present inventory of the tape you seek. Please be kind to your fellow students
and return checked out tapes as soon as possible.

7. Do not attempt to view too many videos at one time-- your concentration and
comprehension may suffer. Remember to follow your instructor's directions for
preparing to view the programs. Textbook reading assignments and study guide
lessons prepare you to gain the most from your video program viewing.
