You are exempt from the TASP because of your SAT or ACT scores. What courses can you take?

You may take MATH 1332, Topics in Mathematics, MATH 1335, Modern Math I, Math 1336, Modern Math II, MATH 1342, Elementary Statistics, or MATH 1333, Mathematics for Measurement, regardless of your previous courses.

The TASP, SAT I, and ACT cover general mathematical skill, not specific algebra skills. Students with good general knowledge may exceed these cut-off scores and still need substantial review work on algebra skills to succeed in algebra courses. Students with good algebra skills may not score as high as some of these cut-off scores but still be ready for algebra courses. Thus, a very important criterion for placement in these circumstances is the prior high school courses. For more accurate assessment of current algebra skills, we recommend the COMPASS.

Students who wish to review their algebra skills before taking the COMPASS may find Prerequisite Review Sheets for entry-level ACC mathematics courses on the web.

The cut-off score for College Algebra on the TASP is set by the state. The cut-off scores given here for the SAT and ACT were set by considering percentiles of students who take these tests.

The state provides several TASP-alternative tests. Following are the cut-off scores for "passing TASP" on each of those (from the November 1999 memo from the THECB.)
