Some of the various fancy Web authoring programs, such as Front Page, have simple ways to upload pages to the Web.
But many people use a free program called WS_FTP LE. It is free for academic users or home users. As with most companies, it is easier to find information on their home page about the various programs that you pay for, like WS_FTP Pro. But keep looking through the list for the free one, WS_FTP LE or WS_FTP Limited Edition.
After you download it, install it, and set up the configuration, it is just as easy to upload Web files as to move them from one subdirectory to another on your hard drive.
If you are not quite familiar with downloading and installing software, you may want to have a friend help you.
I think that people with Macs use Fetch rather than WS_FTP, usually.
One of the most important considerations is to be sure you upload all of your files. In creating a Web page, you may create associated graphics files without realizing it. When you upload your page, all of those files must go too. Most Web authors handle this by making a separate subdirectory for their Web files and creating exactly the files in it that will go on the Web. This ensures that the graphics files will be in that directory too. Then, when they upload files, they simply upload everything in that directory.
