Student Intervention Strategies Committee
Agenda, Nov. 11, 2005
1. Table of resources and consequences. List of resources / consequences | table
Mary Parker will hand out hard copies, without the "checks" to
indicate when students should be told what. The committee will fill in
checks at the meeting to indicate what we think students should be told when.
We'll start by filling out what students should be told AT THE TIME of
withdrawal.
2. What practicalities need to be dealt with in order to tell the
students the things we just agreed they should be told?
a. at online withdrawal
b. at phone withdrawal
c. at in-person withdrawal
3. Are there recommendations that this committee wants to make to some
other group about what students should be told at OTHER TIMES besides the
actual time of withdrawal?
4. Shall we make a recommendation that instructors be allowed to use
online withdrawal as soon as it can be implemented?
5. Shall we make a recommendation that online withdrawal for students not
be implemented until we can distinguish between at-risk students and those
not at risk? (Because, when online
withdrawal is implemented, we will want to treat at-risk students differently
from non-at-risk students – possibly by not having at–risk students be allowed
to do on-line withdrawal.)
6. Should/can we change in-person withdrawal this spring to include instructor
sign-off?
Sub-question: If so, what will we do on the last day to withdraw with
students who can't find their instructor at that moment? Or students who don’t want to talk to their
instructor?
7. Can we start changing in-person withdrawal this spring by at least requiring that students be handed a piece of paper with some discussion of resources/consequences?
Sub-question: Should
we start writing some different discussions so that students could be given a different
piece of paper depending on their stated reason for withdrawal?
8. Agenda for the next meeting.
