DVM 1153 - Prealgebra

(Three credit hours, four lecture hours per week during a 16-week semester, no lab hours)

Catalog description: A course between arithmetic and algebra while including a review of some topics in arithmetic (fractions, decimals, etc.), the focus of the course will be an introduction to the concepts of algebra: variables, simplification and evaluation of algebraic expressions, solutions of linear equations in one and two variables, straight line graphs, etc. Emphasis will be placed on setting up and solving word problems, relating simple algebraic concepts to geometry. Prerequisites: C or better in Basic Math Skills, DVM 1103; its equivalent knowledge, or a passing score on the DVM 1153 Placement Test.
