This is not a course for which students are normally registered.
The course should not appear in the course schedule. This individualized
assignment is the mechanism ACC has for handling students who
are TASP-mandated for remediation in mathematics and who, for
some legitimate reason, do not wind up registered or do not maintain
their registration in the a developmental mathematics course which
would fulfill their TASP-mandation for remediation. In almost
all circumstances, this option can be used for only one semester.
Registration: Students can only be registered through the
campus-based mathematics NCBR coordinator, who is a mathematics
faculty member. The campus coordinators may change from semester
to semester. The list of current coordinators will always be available
on the math Website at the address at the top of this page.
Course Content: The NCBR coordinator develops an individual
assignment for each student enrolled in the course, but this is
not normally individualized instruction. The assignment may include
attending a class, working with an individual sometimes, and/or
working on the computer tutorials, etc. The assignment depends
on the assessed needs of the student, so it is not at the same
level for all students in the "course". Each student
must agree to accept and honor his particular assignment before
the student is enrolled in the course.
Completion of Required Remediation: As a general rule,
students will not be able to exit remediation from NCBR. If exceptions
to this are made, they will be based on the student's performance
on tests from the exit-level courses.
Withdrawal: Students who do not work on their individualized
assignment in accordance with their agreement, will be withdrawn.
A student who withdraws or is withdrawn by the NCBR coordinator
from this course will also be dropped from all college credit
courses, unless he/she is also in mandatory remediation for reading
or writing and is currently enrolled in an appropriate developmental
course.
Developmental Mathematics Course Instructors: Early rolls
indicate which students are TASP-mandated for remediation in mathematics.
Instructors will handle the dropping of students who do not show
up at all in the first two weeks of class in the usual way. After
that intial drop procedure, instructors who wish to drop TASP-mandated
students from a course are asked to fill out the drop slip and
send it along with the TASP status contract and any information
the instructor has on how to contact the student to the campus
NCBR coordinator. The NCBR coordinator will contact the student
to see if enrollment in DVM 0101 or 0103 is appropriate and will
submit the drop slip for the developmental course instructor.
The NCBR coordinator will apprise the instructor of what action
has been taken.
It is important that instructors handle these drops in a regular and timely manner, and that instructors not wait until the last day for withdrawal, because there is not time after the last date for withdrawal to go through the required procedure in a reasonable manner.
