MATH 1332, Topics in Mathematics (MTH 1513, Math Its Spirit and Use) Learning Objectives
Increase/improve students' quantitative literacy. Students successfully completing the course should be reasonably proficient solving quantitative problems they will experience in their lives.
Provide students with an opportunity to experience mathematics as an intellectual exercise and a way of thinking.
Provide students with an opportunity to appreciate the visual and intellectual beauty of mathematics
The course may cover, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- Proportionality
- Data collection and descriptive statistics
- Basic probability
- Right triangle trigonometry
- Mathematics of basic finance
- Logic
- Sets
- Geometric concepts, possibly including geometric design
- History of mathematics
- Concepts of calculus
