MATH 1332, 1333 and 1342

Students who pass the TASP test (230+ on the math portion) or the ACC Assessment test in math (39+ on the Algebra portion of the COMPASS) have demonstrated knowledge of the prerequisite mathematics necessary for these courses, independently of their previous coursework. A summary of TASP skills and some practice problems (with answers) are available from the TASP website. Students who wish to review more problems than these are encouraged to purchase The Official TASP Study Guide, available from most local bookstores for under $15. It includes review material for all of reading, writing, and mathematics, and a full-length practice test.

Being exempt from TASP requirements is not the same as having passed the TASP and does not meet the prerequisite for these courses.

Students who have completed high school Algebra II (with a C or better) at some time in the past have met the prerequisite for these courses and, in our experience, will be able to handle these courses from the perspective of the prerequisite mathematics skills.

Making what the state calls an equivalent score on another test also does not meet the prerequisite for these courses. Those tests cover a different mixture of mathematical skills. Such scores on those other tests indicate a minimal level of mathematical skill, but do not necessarily indicate mastery of the type of material necessary to succeed in MATH 1332, 1333, or 1342. If you have not met the prerequisite for these courses, but you have a score on another test that you would like to have a mathematics faculty member evaluate, please contact a full-time mathematics professor.

ACC's Developmental Mathematics course, MATD 0360, Topics in Developmental Math, was designed to prepare students for these courses. It includes a variety of mathematical skills in addition to algebra.
