Prepare for an Assessment Test:

There is no way to "fail" an Assessment Test. Whether you score low or high -- we have a course for you. However, if you don't want to spend time and money taking the lower-level courses, then you should review the math you have already learned in order to demonstrate that well on the test. We have some Prerequisite Review Sheets to help with that.

Sign Up for an ACC Assessment Test:

Call an ACC Assessment Office and ask for an appointment. The test is the COMPASS. If you are required to take it for admission, you will take all parts. It is not timed. You will want to spend enough time, so allow yourself three or four hours, although you may not need that long. If you are not required to take it for admission to ACC, but need to take the math portion to enter a higher-level math course, then allow as much as 1 1/2 hours, although most students take only 45 minutes or less.

Interpret Your Test Scores:

Placement information is available for several categories of students. To make use of these pages, you will need to know what test you took and your scores. Consult an advisor from the ACC Advising Office if you have forgotten this and WRITE DOWN the relevant information so that you will have it available as you read this and when you begin your mathematics course.

Overall placement charts

If you were exempt from the TSI requirements for some other reason, some information is available. You will need to take the ACC Assessment Test (COMPASS) if there is any question about your mathematics skills.

Previous Courses:

The prerequisites for all the entry-level college courses at the level of Trigonometry or Business Calculus or higher include successful completion of some high school courses past Algebra II. See the catalog for details. Your advisor and any mathematics faculty member you talk with will be very interested in what math courses you have successfully completed. You don't have to bring transcripts when you come to talk with us, but if you have them easily available, do bring them. Don't worry about this in advance. Just come and talk with us or call or send an email message.
