This message is from Teresa Ashley, who is the ACC Librarian who handles most of the math books. It was sent on July 2, 1998.
Dear Faculty,
You are invited to subscribe to the MTHLIB list. This
listserv, intended for communication among mathematics
professors and Learning Resource Services professionals, was
requested by me, Teresa Ashley, Reference Librarian and
bibliographer for the MTH account.
I propose using the list to inform about new books,
periodicals, audiovisuals, software, electronic and online
information resources, as well as to discuss other topics
that might be of interest to us all. In this latter vein, I
recently had a very interesting email conversation with an
ACC MTH professor about some possibly controversial trends
in the teaching of mathematics. We both took a look at a
Web site that decried these trends, discussed some books
that we might add to the collection and postponed further
discussion of the topic.
If you feel that membership on this list could be useful or
of interest to you, please subscribe (instructions from ACC
Listserv below). I am sending this message to all the email
addresses on the ACC Mathematics Page, but I'm sure I've not
included everyone who might want to subscribe to this list.
Please feel free to forward this information to any
colleagues who might not have received this message.
I am the listowner and do not expect this list to be too
heavily trafficked, but do invite open discussion. I will
not be moderating at this time.
You may send your subscription information to the ACC
Listserv after July 3 (it takes 24 hours to establish the
list).

Replying to Messages
----------------------------------------------
If you want to reply to a message sent to the list, you
simply use the
"reply" function of your mail program. This way the message
subject is
preserved and the other subscribers can see that your
message is a reply to
the original question. You can of course post a new message,
but you will
then have to retype the subject, and if you enter something
slightly
different people may not realize it is a reply to a previous
post.
