Schedule Notes for MATH 1425
MATH 1425: Business Calculus with Applications I (MTH 1674)
This course is required for an Associate Degree in Business at ACC. It is also required for a Bachelor's degree in Business at most four-year schools. More information about the course, including the syllabus and textbook, is available.
Special notes for prospective UT students:
Beginning in Fall 2002, the College of Business at the University of Texas at Austin will require that students majoring in business take two (or maybe three) regular calculus courses rather than two semesters of Business Calculus, which they previously required. However, we have been assured that they will continue to count Business Calculus I and II for transfer students for the indefinite future. Transfer students will need to complete both courses before going to UT, however, since the courses will not be offered at UT.
The reason for this change, as it has been described to us, is that students majoring in economics really need the regular calculus courses as prerequisites for some upper-division economics courses. At UT, freshmen who think they will major in business often change to economics majors, so they want to make as many courses as possible in the first two years apply to both degrees. Thus, they are changing the requirements for a business degree.
The question of possibly changing majors is much more of an issue for UT freshmen and sophomores than it is for transfer students, because students transferring in as juniors generally do not change majors. That's why they are willing to continue to accept Business Calculus I and II from transfer students.
Students who will take the regular calculus courses rather than Business Calculus must have Precalculus (MATH 2412) as a prerequisite, which, in turn, requires Trigonometry (MATH 1316) as a prerequisite.
