Prerequisite:
Students can meet the prerequisite for this course any one of these ways:
Students who made a lower score than indicated on the THEA and SAT can take the COMPASS test through ACC. Students who are not able to meet the prerequisite will need to take some developmental mathematics courses in order to prepare for College Algebra. The ACC advisors can interpret the assessment test scores and place you in the appropriate course. (If you have scored high enough on the THEA or SAT to have met the TSI requirement, but not high enough to place into College Algebra, that appropriate developmental course will be Intermediate Algebra, MATD 0390.) Those developmental courses are not offered on the UT campus, but are available at all the main ACC campuses.
When and How to Register:
Follow the directions for Admission and Registration on the registration website. Registration is generally by telephone and spring registration will begin in December. (It will end one or two weeks before the class begins.) New students must complete the application, orientation, and advising before being allowed to register. Start this right away. Much of the process can be handled by mail and the web, or you can start by going to the Advising Center at an ACC campus. If you haven't met the prerequisite for the course, you must take the COMPASS as part of this orientation. That must be done in person and you must make an appointment in advance for that test. Check the website for information about making an appointment (and preparing for the test.) The closest ACC campus to UT is the Rio Grande Campus. Take the UT/Lake Austin shuttle from 21st & Guadalupe or Jester Dorm to 12th and Nueces. The Rio Grande campus is one block to the west of that shuttle bus stop. Parking at the Rio Grande campus is very tight, but the recent addition of a parking garage down 12th Street toward Lamar has improved it so some extent. If you will go to the campus by car, you may want to try a different campus. Eastview Campus is not far from UT and has more parking.
If you have previously enrolled at Austin Community College, you may skip the steps of application, orientation, and advising.
Important Notice:
If you wish credit for this course to appear on your UT transcript, after the class is over you must request that an ACC Admissions and Records Office send an official transcript from ACC to UT.
