Information for Students *, page 1 of 2
2002-2003
Text: The Official TASP Test Study Guide developed by National Evaluation Systems, Inc.
The portions of the text which pertain to the mathematics portion of the TASP test, and
this class, are Sections I, III and V.
Course objectives: http://www.austincc.edu/mthdept2/tfcourses/obj0162.htm
Supplemental Materials: none.
Students are not allowed to use rulers, protractors, compasses, etc. while taking the TASP test, so students are not allowed to use them in this class. As on the TASP, students are encouraged to use a basic ten-key calculator in this class, but it is not required.
Course Purpose:
This course is not designed to prepare students for any college level mathematics course. It is designed solely to help students pass the mathematics portion of the TASP test. The course is intended to work with students on their test-taking skills in the context of mathematics problems and to review, but not give instruction in, the types of mathematical material that is covered on the TASP test. Students who need instruction in the mathematical material may need to transfer to the appropriate developmental mathematics course. Your instructor can aid you in transferring, or direct you to someone who can aid you.

Other calendars and testing schemes are possible. Your instructor may give you an additional handout.
Your instructor will provide you with an additional handout that details the testing, homework, and grading procedures.
* Additional information about ACC's mathematics curriculum and faculty is available on the Internet at <http://www.austincc.edu/math/>
Attendance: Regular attendance is required. Students may be dropped by their instructor for excessive absences or for disciplinary reasons. It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw him/herself from the course if he/she stops attending class.
TASP Warning: If you are relying on this course to meet a requirement that you be in mandatory remediation in mathematics this semester*, then
i) if you are not "continually in attendance" in this course, you should be withdrawn from the course by your instructor,
ii) if you withdraw yourself from this course or are withdrawn by your instructor, you will be automatically withdrawn from all of your other college courses if this is the only TASP-mandated course you are taking.
* If you are unsure whether or not this warning applies to you, see an ACC advisor immediately.
Reinstatement Policy: Students who withdrew or were withdrawn generally will not be reinstated unless they have completed all course work, projects, and tests necessary to place them at the same level of course completion as the rest of the class.
Incomplete grades: An “I” grade is given only in rare circumstances. Generally, to qualify for a grade of “I”, a student must have completed 13 weeks of classes, including all exams, homework, and assignments, have a passing grade, and have a personal tragedy occur within the final three weeks which prevents course completion.
Free tutoring is available in the Learning Labs at most ACC campuses. Hours will vary. <http://www.austincc.edu/rvslab/ll.html>
The Learning Labs also have computer software programs which offer TASP tutorials that students may find helpful.
