Learning Objectives
- Increase/improve students' quantitative literacy. Students successfully
completing the course should be reasonably proficient solving quantitative
problems they will experience in their lives.
- Provide students with an opportunity to experience mathematics as an intellectual
exercise and a way of thinking.
- Provide students with an opportunity to appreciate the visual and intellectual
beauty of mathematics
The course may cover, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- Proportionality
- Data collection and descriptive statistics
- Basic probability
- Right triangle trigonometry
- Mathematics of basic finance
- Logic
- Sets
- Geometric concepts, possibly including geometric design
- History of mathematics
- Concepts of calculus
