Responsibilities of Mathematics assistant department chair assigned to Off-campus/ECS
The Mathematics Assistant Department Chair provides
appropriate support, mentoring and supervision for faculty teaching at
Off-Campus and ECS sites.
This assistant department chair reports to the
Mathematics Department Chair.
Major Duties:
·
Improve
communication by serving as the department point of contact for ECS and
Off-Campus Center and Site faculty, administrators, and staff.
·
Develop
and maintain a departmental Off-Campus/ECS website. Contents may include
contact information, FAQ’s, etc.
·
Co-Chair
a standing department Off-Campus/ECS advisory committee. The initial committee
charge would include:
o
reviewing
the department’s adjunct faculty hiring process and proposing changes to
expedite the review of applications from applicants interested in teaching
Off-Campus/ECS classes
o
reviewing the
department’s faculty evaluation process with the goal of recommending
improvements that would address the unique challenges of maintaining quality in
off-campus instruction.
o
developing
orientation, mentoring and support activities specifically in support of
Off-Campus/ECS faculty
o
discussing the
department's Math Manual material for the introductory
college mathematics courses offered Off-Campus/ECS with each mathematics course
committee and suggesting statements to each introductory college mathematics
course committee to consider including in the Math Manual that will
convey to students the differences they should expect between their previous
high school classes and college classes. These will address the
intellectual level, the amount of work required outside of class, and the
responsibility that each student must assume for his own learning

Expedite
the review of applications from applicants interested in teaching ECS classes
·
Coordinate
the mentoring of new Off-Campus/ECS faculty
·
Arrange
classroom observations for new faculty and others teaching
Off-Campus/ECS courses as needed
·
Maintain
and develop the annual Off-Campus/ECS class schedule
·
Recommend
faculty teaching assignments for ECS classes
·
Mediate
and process Off-Campus/ECS student complaints and concerns
·
Respond
appropriately to parental inquiries to the mathematics department
·
Formulate
and provide ECS faculty members with handout for parents concerning their
rights and the rights of ACC students each semester.
·
Guide
Off-Campus/ECS
faculty in providing classes that are fully consistent with our requirements
and guidelines as given in the Math Manual
and other information provided to ACC math instructors.
·
Ensure
that Off-Campus/ECS mathematics curricula are aligned with current ACC Math
Manual guidelines
·
Other
duties as assigned
