Jewelry Students Take High Honors

Jewelry by Jennifer Modesett

Two students from ACC’s Jewelry Department recently took high honors at 2010 Official Texas Arts and Crafts Fair in Kerrville.

Ayanna Spears and Jennifer Modesett won scholarships through the Emerging Texas Artist Scholarship Program, established by the Texas Arts & Crafts Educational Foundation and underwritten by James Avery Craftsman. The program gives students an opportunity to win scholarship money and receive mentorship from professional artists while exhibiting and selling their work.

Spears earned a special mention in the Best Jewelry category, winning a $1,250 award. Modesett was the runner-up for Emerging Texas Artist and won a $2,500 scholarship.

“We are extremely proud and gratified that Ayanna and Jennifer received this wonderful recognition of their talent,” says Bill Evans, department chair. “It speaks highly of our students and ACC’s Jewelry Program.”

ACC offers a certificate in Jewelry Fabrication and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Jewelry. Click here for more information.
