ACC has received numerous questions from students asking about the new state law requiring meningitis immunization for college admission. Find quick answers below to common questions about the new requirement. For more detailed information, see the ACC immunization information page.
What is the requirement?
Under Senate Bill 1107, the State of Texas now requires all students under age 30 who are new to college, or returning after a leave of one full semester, to either:
Who is affected by the law?
Who is exempt from the law?
I withdrew from my fall 2011 class. Am I still exempt?
You are considered a current student and exempt from the law if you were enrolled in your class on the official reporting date (Sept. 7 for 16-week classes in fall 2011).
I only take online courses – does this requirement affect me?
Yes. ACC’s online classes are not separate from in-class instruction; so online-only students under 30 must meet the same requirement as all students.
I am uninsured or underinsured – where can I get the shot?
County Health Departments will provide affordable vaccinations to uninsured and underinsured students. Find a listing of these locations on the ACC immunization information page.
Can I decline the vaccination?
Yes. Students may decline the vaccination for medical or conscientious reasons. You must provide official documents in order to decline the vaccination. For more information about how to decline the vaccination, visit the ACC immunization information page.
How do I submit my meningitis information?
Magnus Health, a student medical record system, is verifying documents for ACC. Students must log in to the Magnus Health Portal to submit their documentation directly to Magnus Health. For detailed instructions on how to do this, check your ACCmail for login information from Magnus Health or contact customer support at (877) 461.6831 or service@magnushealthportal.com.
Can I bring my documentation directly to an ACC office?
No. ACC does not directly handle or keep your vaccination records. You must submit your documentation directly to Magnus Health.

What will happen if I am registered for classes beginning Jan. 17th and I am unable to submit my proof before Jan. 7th.
I’m 28 years old and cannot get the vaccination until the end of the month when I get paid. I’m registered for classes for the first time. I saw on the news this morning that I must have the shot by January 7th to attend classes at ACC for the Spring semester. Will my classes be dropped automatically by you, or do I need to drop the class in order to get full refund?
So after reading some of the questions, and answers are you exempt if you have been enrolled in ACC for the fall 2011. Is that right?
You may not be in the Magnus system yet if you just registered. Call the ACC help desk at (512) 223.4636 for help with your specific issues. Good luck!
Magnus Health will not accept my immunization documents because I do not have an Admissions hold. How do I get them to accept my records w/o having a hold?
Ms. Sanders, you are exempt from the law since it applies to students under 30.
I AM 31 YEARS OLD AND DUE TO FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES WAS NOT ABLE TO ATTEND FALL 2011, DO I STILL NEED TO GET A SHOT? IF SO THIS IS RIDICULOUS, I KNOW THE RISKS AND FRANKLY, IT’SHOULD BE GERARED MORE FOR THE YOUNGER COLLEGE KIDS ANYWAY.
