The Austin Community College Jazz Ensemble is teaming with special guest artists to benefit a Dell Children’s Medical Center surgical team headed to Guatemala on a medical mission. The show is set for Thursday, Sept. 20, from 8:30 to 11 p.m. at JAX Neighborhood Cafe (2828 Rio Grande St.).
“We are always happy to assist Dell Children’s whenever we can,” says Dr. Tom Husak, Jazz Ensemble director. “This will be a great show for an equally great cause.”
The show will feature Grammy-winning guitarist Redd Volkaert and vocalist Dayne Otto. The event is free and open to the public; donations will benefit the team traveling to Guatemala to treat gravely ill children.
The funds are raised through a chapter of Dell Children’s Circle of Friends – grassroots, volunteer-led, community-based chapters that raise funds and awareness for Children’s Medical Center Foundation of Central Texas to benefit Dell Children’s. This chapter has chosen to focus attention on international mission work by members of the Dell Children’s staff.
“Dell Children’s is a pediatric hospital caring for sick and injured children in our area – regardless of their ability to pay. No child is turned away!” says Rita Willoughby with Children’s Medical Center Foundation. “Dell Children’s Medical Center is a tremendous asset to our community. Made possible by the support of friends like the ACC Jazz Ensemble, this facility provides exceptional care that’s close to home for thousands of children in the Central Texas area.”
