I would like to nominate Professor Roy Casagranda for the Teaching Excellence Award. One of Professor Casagranda’s most important strengths is getting students such as me to question everything that we take for granted and reevaluate it. Rather than imposing his own views on us (his students) he leaves it up to us to come to our own conclusions. Professor Casagranda encourages social development and change and developed The Austin School to achieve this. Professor Casagranda is the Founder of The Austin School and The Austin School Lecture Series. The lecture series is open to all students and the community at large. He invites many different speakers to discuss political issues over a broad range of topics. The speakers are authors, community leaders, university professors and students. I personally took both his US Government and Texas Government courses and attend as many of The Austin School Lectures as possible. Professor Casagranda has had more of an impact on my life than any other single person.

I nominate Professor Felix Villarreal for excellence. He goes above and beyond for his students. He makes the learning environment fun while still keeping on task. He makes sure that students receive outside help if they are struggling and even modifies his syllabus according to the class’ strengths and weaknesses. Pro V has a way of ensuring that students are learning key concepts by integrating multiple learning styles into each class. Overall he has a genuine passion for teaching and a passion for each student’s success. I have attended different schools and have been taught by a lot of instructors and Felix Villarreal deserves an award for making ACC a better institution for higher learning.
