ACC Delays Opening to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4

We are continuing to coordinate weather-related information with the regional Emergency Operations Centers and with officials from the city, county, area universities, school districts, and numerous other agencies. Below is the most updated information available this evening.

Weather Update:
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Austin-metro area. Rain and lightning already are reported in some areas with ¼” to ½” hail also reported. Freezing temperatures and freezing rain will occur overnight.

Anticipated Road Conditions:
Ice accumulations are anticipated on bridges, flyovers, some roads, and exposed surfaces where cold air can get underneath (e.g., cars, decks, etc.). Roads may become treacherous overnight and tomorrow morning with icy conditions. Drivers and walkers are advised to use extreme caution.

Power Outages:
There are no reported power outages at this time.

Tuesday, March 4th Schedule for ACC Campuses and Centers:

All ACC campuses, centers, and other locations, including HBC and SVC, will have a delayed start on Tuesday until 11:00 a.m.. All previously scheduled meetings, events, and activities will be delayed until 11:00 a.m. All classes that were scheduled to start before 11:00 a.m. are cancelled. All classes that were scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. or later will be held. As a reminder to all faculty, staff, and students, when the college is closed, all campuses, centers, and buildings are closed. Tomorrow, ACC District Police will begin opening buildings at 10:30 a.m. for entry for faculty, staff, and students.

Communication Updates:
We will continue to monitor the weather overnight, and I anticipate providing another update for you at approximately 5:00 a.m. or shortly thereafter tomorrow morning. It is possible that tomorrow’s schedule may change beyond an 11:00 a.m. delayed start. Please check your e-mail; or the ACC homepage at: http://www.austincc.edu/; or Facebook; or Twitter; or your local television or radio station for possible additional schedule changes.

Someone told me this afternoon to make hot chocolate by the gallons this winter. They were so right! Cozy up again with that flannel blanket, your terry-cloth robe, and sweatpants, ‘cuz you’ll want them all tonight! I’ll be back in touch with you in the early morning.

Take care and warm best wishes,

Mary Hensley, Ed.D.
Executive Vice President, College Operations
