Calling All Future Math, Science and Tech Teachers
Austin Community College will host an information session for future math, science and technology teachers on November 19 from 6 to 8 pm at Highland Business Center at 5930 Middle Fiskville Road, room 201. The session will provide everything you want to know about ACC's Alternative Teacher Certification program.
Approved by the State Board for Educator Certification, ACC's program begins for those with a Bachelors Degree and 24 hours of concentration in math, science, or technology applications.
This intense, fast-paced, 15-month program begins in January, 2004 with online technology courses, five education courses, a month-long 9 am to 5 pm content area course in June, an internship as a first-year teacher with a local school district, mentoring and support, and an online course in Spring 2005. Successful candidates could receive their provisional Texas teaching certificate in June 2005. Costs run $4775 (not including out-of-district and testing fees).
Austin Community College also provides professional development courses and additional certifications for current teachers. Specific courses will be added to the website. Teachers desiring training for additional certifications in Technology Applications, high school math and science, and 4-8 Generalist should apply by January 15, 2004. ACC will soon have approval for Generalist certification, which enables a person to teach math, science, language arts and social studies to grades 4-8.
Applications for the 15 month program are available at the information session and on the website at www.austincc.edu/TchrCert/. The deadline for applying to the program is December 4, 2003 and must be accompanied by $50 and all required documents.
