ACC Celebrates International Education Week

In observance of International Education Week, November 17-21, Austin Community College will host a series of workshops and cultural events to promote programs that prepare students for a global environment and educational exchange experiences abroad.

On Monday, November 17, two workshops will be held at ACC's Rio Grande Campus, 1212 Rio Grande. Beginning at Noon to 1:00 p.m. ACC's Anthropology Instructor, Carol Hayman will lead a discussion entitled "Study Abroad Opportunities to Lima, Peru", in Room 256. Immediately following, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., in Room 218, Rex Peebles, ACC's dean of Social and Behavioral Science will address "Pre-Emptive War: Right or Wrong." This session will focus on pre-emptive war as a tool of foreign policy for the United States.

Tuesday November 18, 11:00 to Noon, at ACC's Pinnacle Campus, 7748 Hwy. 290 West, in Room 400, a panel discussion and teleconference with ACC and Mercer County Community College students will explore opportunities abroad. At ACC's Riverside Campus, 1020 Grove Blvd., in Room 8100. Dr. Alvaro Guerra Lopez, Vice-President, Universidad Albert Einstein and Susan Wenck with American Capital of Cultures will discuss opportunities to study abroad within their organizations. Dr. Lopez's session begins at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., and Wenck's session immediately follows from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

On Wednesday Nov. 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at ACC's Rio Grande Campus a cultural festival will be held in the Student Lounge featuring international performances, dancers, music, food vendors, and arts and crafts. Later, that evening in Room 254, Jan Smith ACC's International Business director will host a business and career fair and lead a panel discussion with experienced international business practitioners who will talk with students about international career opportunities.

On Thursday, Nov.20, at ACC's Northridge Campus, 11928 Stonelake Dr., Anjanette Gautier de Castro, ACC's manager of International Programs will outline best practices on how to internationalize courses and curriculums.
