NEW REPORT SHOWS MORE AREA HIGH SCHOOL GRADS CHOOSE ACC THAN ANY OTHER COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY

More 2003 high school graduates in Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties chose to enroll at Austin Community College (ACC) in fall 2003 than at any other college or university in Texas. These findings are detailed in a new report released by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and Texas Education Agency titled, Texas High School Graduates From FY 2003 Enrolled in Texas Higher Education Fall 2003.

“More and more high school graduates and their families are seeing the value in community colleges,” said Dr. Robert Aguero, ACC President. “Austin Community College offers quality instruction at an affordable price. The classes are smaller than those at most universities and our campuses are conveniently located near growing communities. For those reasons, ACC is a smart choice,” added Dr. Aguero.

More than half of the students enrolled in Texas higher education in fall
2003 were attending a community college. According to the Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board, fall 2003 student enrollments at Texas two-year institutions totaled 536,005 compared to 472,188 enrolled at Texas public universities.

THECB also reports more than half of all entering college freshmen, in Texas and across the nation, choose to begin at a community college for academic transfer or workforce education and training.
